Out of the Blue

Recently I watched 10 Promises to my Dog, read " Marley and Me" and I look at the dogs passing me as I jog. Truth is, I lived through the lives of 4 dogs since young, and never ever really liked them. 2 were pugs. Like that: I was about 7 when the first one joined my family and I didn't like it. But the second pug came as a surprise when I was in secondary school. It was lost at my block and wandered into the house, looking for a place to pee. It was cute, but fat. We pushed him out of the house after it pee-ed, thinking that the owner might find it. But it was still loitering after 2 days. Sigh so we took him in. Guess his first sleeping place? My school bag. My blue "Umbro" backpack. He looked so much like a pig to me that I named him Ah Fat. He puts his head on my thigh when I do my homework on the floor. And sleeps under my study table. He's snores. Sleeps on his side. And when his nose is itchy, he dives at his towel. He dashes at peop

"That is the question everyone asks in his or her heart." I heard this at a conference last week. Following that the speaker related a true story of his parents. His mother, in her 80s had developed Alzheimer's and she'd frantically get up at times and ask "Where am I?" And her husband, already 90, would gently bring her to the window and point to her the church building some distance away and assuringly told her," Look, that's the church we go to every week. You are safe, at home. I'm with you." At other times, she'd frantically ask," Where's Wei Jian? It's his entrance exams today!" And he would remind her that he's in the States. But she could not believe it and continued to panic. Alas he drove her to their son's former high school and said,"See, there's no one in school. It's holidays now. Discipleship is like flying a kite Where you need to tug & let go, tug & let go the key is knowing when. A dance where one leads and the other follows; It's my part and her part It's about being friends, having fun and accepting faults in one another. Like coaching where trust, encouragement and expectations come into play. It's something I'm still learning and figuring out. Something seemingly small but had turned the world upside down. Something life changing, something worthwhile.
