it's my ah ma's b'day!

my Grandma!

Last Saturday, we celebrated my grandma's birthday with a nice buffet spread. My grandma is 80+ plus years.. she is a dearie to me. She took care of me since I was young. She called me "Baby!!" till I started Primary School(I had to remind her that I was no longer one haa ;p)

My grandma taught me how to cook, sweep the floor and do marketing. She insists that girls must know all these things. (And you can guess she does not insist boys do the same arrghh)

Two weeks ago, one of my friends burned a CD containing Hokkien Christian songs and asked me to pass to her. I procrastinated for a couple of weeks, as I expected rejection. Perhaps it is not very appropriate I thought. But I decided to try anywayz, by faith.

Finally, last Saturday I brought the CD and my CD player,taught her how to on and off the CD player and there she was- listening to the songs! She was even singing along my goodness...praise the Lord!

She even asked my brother later how to repeat a certain track she liked. Wow!

By the way, she was playing mahjong game on the computer while she listened to the CD and sang along..

Mongolia

It's been a week plus since I returned from Mongolia. I've never expected to go there, even for a mission trip..well God's ways are higher and better I believe! One of the first things I had to adjust to was the colder weather. It was dry- my lips were cracking and my hands and feet were getting scaly.. I had to put on lots of mosturizing cream. Before long I was marveling at the buildings and roads that I did not expect to see in Mongolia. They were Russian style, built when they controlled the country many years ago. I was surprised to hear that all their universities were near one another, lined up along what was the University Street. Coolz.. The people were strange and interesting to me. They spoke in such a queer language that it sounded like Japanese, Malay and Cantonese simultaneously! Hard as we tried, we never really suceeded in speaking it. 'Hesed' way of life

After Women's Conference, I ran a fever and a Gen 12II meeting at the same time. Thank God the fever is gone now and the meeting was fruitful! I learnt many precious lessons from the lives of close to 200 women at the conference. We heard from many inspiring women-Judy Douglas, Andrea Buczynski, and Dr Kim who expounded on the book of Ruth-another woman whom I had learnt much from. In the bible, Ruth was a Moabite whom clung on to her mother-in-law Naomi. She believed in and served Yah Weh. She lived a life of 'Hesed'- Loving Kindness- and one aspect of it is living life beyond and above what is expected. It inspires me to know that I can live life "surpassingly." One area that comes to mind in living "surpassingly" is that of missions. I'm going to Laos this March, along with 6 other young and fun-loving Poly students and 3 other adults. My Grandpa passed on last Sun night. Though we were all prepared for the worst, everybody was very sad. We couldn't bear to let him go. My grandpa is a good man. Quiet and reserved, he speaks alot only when he's angry. He's a dutiful and caring husband and I remember him cooking for the family when my grandma was sick. He did the groceries when she could not walk long distances anymore. He doted on me and always bought me breakfast. I remember that he would be the first to wake up and make coffee-old style with sock-for everybody. When I attended kindergarten and pri sch he'd wait for me and fetch me home. I became known as the student whose grandfather waited for after school. He's always shaking his leg while smoking a cigarette. And he loves "brick game"!
