camp coming up!

It's been a busy past two weeks building up to an evangelism training camp in RP and at the same time meeting student leaders in TP. Yet it has also been a fruitful time as I learn to pray- more regularly, more specifically- and seeing how God is moving through little prayers I try to write down. Grateful that God provided financially for the camp through supportive co-labourers. 20 students are coming for the camp, first of its kind for RP, praise God! God's faithful and while being contented at His feet, I'm also praying for courageous faith, to see life change in these students and multiplying faith through them. Soli de gloria!

Aunty Milly

After the evening service in church, my brother and I were at the bus stop and we met a lady called Aunty Milly. She'd just attended the service too and we began talking. She shared that she attended the evening service because she has to take care of her 94 yr old Mum in the day. And she asked if we were still studying. Cos we looked young to her. As usual I said I'm older than I look and I'm working in Campus Crusade. "Oh.. Campus Crusade.. When I was younger, a lady came knocking at my door and shared the booklet with me for 10min. I didn't receive Christ then. But you know the Holy Spirit just over time convict my heart. I felt a sharp pain in my body..I just said I need Jesus..but anyway I waited till Christmas day.. midnight of eve you know.. and prayed the prayer in the booklet." In a sweet, grandmotherly way, she continued in the bus, sharing about how God has been so real in her life. I'm touched that God used a booklet to touch Aunty Milly...

Making room for God

Honestly, I did not look forward to the staff meeting this morning cos it was the Day of Prayer (day set aside to pray for our Singapore ministry). I dragged myself out of bed after a fitful & insufficient sleep. Then took an almost 2hr journey to GCTC. But what a pleasant surprise when I arrived, cos we were told to spend some personal time in prayer at different prayer "rooms". A question on a sheet of paper given struck me, "Do you want to have Him to settle down and be perfectly at home?" I realised at that instant how crowded my heart was with concerns, worries and anxieties. And how much I needed to make room for God. As I prayed in the various rooms with different emphasis but all about my heart, I just increasingly felt "lighter". In one of the rooms called "The Study, The Hall Closet", I prayed to lay down what worried me and trust God to carry my burdens. In another room called "The Dining Room" a small compass lay on ...

with love

Organizing my Dad's birthday celebration has to be the most stressful among many others. This year is potluck style, unlike the usual buffet. It means a little more coordination and work, which might be easier if my aunties were easy-going. With apprehension and prayer I prepared what I could. Interestingly, I read an article this morning about a well known yoga master whom said something like anything done with love is done well. Somehow it reminded me that what's most important is that this party is done up with love. And I prayed that I would serve with love and that the celebration will reflect God's love for me. Well, hiccups came still - the ice cream cake came too early, my aunties sqaubbled abit, some left-over food- but I felt God's peace and assurance. As long as it is done with love.. "Love is patient and kind, love does not envy or boast. It is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful.." 1 Co...

testing

It's been a rough going week for me. Somehow, negativity & doubts weighed heavily in my heart. But it set me praying more and seeking God desperately. During one such afternoon I opened the bible and read James. "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of different kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1:2-4 It was like God's personal note to me. And I was really encouraged. Friends prayed for me as I talked with them. I believe the prayers helped greatly in the battlefield of the mind, where I seemed to flail on my own. In subsequent quiet times God revealed my carnal heart attitudes towards people which I confessed. It was hard, but good. That led me to forgive by faith and reconcile with those I cared deeply for. Through the trials I faced this week, I'm seeing how God is amazingly at work in ...
